Brides spend lots of time picking the various parts of their wedding day look, from the dress, down to makeup, jewelry and other accessories, shoes, and very importantly – their hair! There are various factors which it is helpful to consider when looking for and deciding on the style you or your stylist will create on the day!
Just like your dress, there are styles out that that suit some people, and styles that suit others. Take into consideration your face shape, your hair type (fine/think, short/long) and your personal style (relaxed, boho, classic, elegant).
Match your hair to your dress – not only should the hair style suit YOU, but it needs to suit the dress, sometimes a more simple classic dress means it can call for more detail in the hair to compensate, whereas, if you have a dress with lots of intricate lace detail high at the back, it can be a good idea to put your hair up in a slightly simpler style, so as to not cover and waste all of the lovely detail on your dress.
Should I wear my hair up or down? Firstly, it comes down to what you are most comfortable with, if you never wear your hair up and feel unlike you and awkward with that on a day to day basis, you will probably feel the same on your wedding day. The good old English weather can be something to factor in as well – if you are concerned about the wind, drizzle etc as you are having an outside wedding, or are concerned about your hair style lasting all day, an updo could be the way to go
as once pinned in place, you won’t have to worry about curls dropping out, or it blowing in your face for photos.
What hair accessories should I have? Again, match these to your dress, and remember that sometimes, less is more. If your dress contains pearl beaded detail, pick an accessory that will mirror that, the same goes for diamonds/sparkle. If you are going for a relaxed boho or country look, fresh flowers are always a winner.
What it comes down to… don’t go for something that is so unlike your normal style, that you will look back at your photos in years to come and think “why did I do that?!” – your hair, as with your makeup, should be “you” – but the very BEST version of you!
